Pr e s by te r i a n s To d ay | FEBRUARY/MARCH 2018 15 with mission in its blood, it was still important to raise awareness among the congregation about what it means to serve. "What does it really take? How long does it take? These were some of the questions we wanted to address," Rodríguez said, adding that with the church's motto being "We are Christ's letter to the world" it was time to become more inten- tional in going out into the world. Rodríguez was pleased with the service challenge turnout. Out of the 342 people who participated, 100 were new volunteers. "That was exciting to me," Rodríguez said. As the month came to an end, the final hours were logged. Kirk in the Hills surpassed its goal by 32 percent, logging 2,648 service hours in one month. "We were so excited to announce to our congregation that we exceeded our goals. Our members applauded and cheered," said The Rev. Fernando Rodríguez and members of the Kirk in the Hills Church wore T-shirts that shared their motto — We are Christ's Letter to the World — everywhere they served. The church was challenged to log 2,000 service hours in November. The congregation exceeded that goal by 648 hours.
